The 300 Workout Using Tabata Intervals

Sunday, October 18th, 2009
For those of you who don’t know, The 300 Workout was the rage several years ago when The 300 movie first came out and everybody was shocked with how ripped and chiseled all of the Spartans were from their intense training.
Well, the other day I received an enthusiastic email from one of our valued Workout Muse customers, John Thompson.
He sent me a video with a way to modify the original 300 workout (which was rep-based) into an interval training format using Ultimate Tabatas interval workout music.
I must say- his concept was genius and the video workout of him actually doing the 300 interval workout was even better, see below:
Hey BJ-

I turned the 300 workout into a Ultimate Tabatas fat annihilation workout:

1-Pullups
2-Deadlifts with 135lbs
3-Push-ups
4-Box Jump
5-Floor Wipers
6-Kettlebell Clean and Press 35lb Left
7-Kettlebell Clean and Press 35lb Right
8-Pullups

THE 300 INTERVAL WORKOUT POWERED BY ULTIMATE TABATAS

What I love most about this 300 INTERVAL WORKOUT is that it doesn’t require you to count reps like the original plan did.

Personally, I hate rep counting… I counted reps the first 20 years of my life and it’s just so annoying and I feel like it prevents me from going to that happy place where I can push myself to the break point where I force my body to change. It’s just so distracting! (more…)

4-Minute Shoulder Workout

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

The other day I received a great 4-minute shoulder workout video from the one and only Jason C. Brown.

jason

He’s P-Mac’s partner in crime over at KettlebellAthletics.com in Philly.

They are 2 of the world’s leading experts in Kettlebell Training.

The workout video Jason sent me is below:

It features a Kettlebell 1-Arm Push Press for 20 seconds followed by 10 seconds of active recovery with full arm extension overhead. This 30-second sequence is repeated 8 times for a 4-minute shoulder blaster using Ultimate Tabatas Interval Workout Music powered by Workout Muse.

For beginners, you can either employ full rest for 10 seconds or simply switch arms from set to set.

Try this bad boy out- I know I will… it will smoke those shoulders baby!

Latin Workout Music

Friday, October 9th, 2009

One of the most underrated musical genres for a killer workout is latin music.

Latin tunes consists of fun, uptempo beats that really set the appropriate rep tempo to maximize your intervals workouts- it sets a feverish pace!

Hot Music for a Smoking Workout!

Hot Music for a Smoking Workout!

Plus it really provides a tropical/island feel to it allowing you to go somewhere else during your workout… and if you live in a northern climate like me, you know darn well it’s nice to get away, even if it’s just mentally ;)

Here’s a nice Ultimate Tabatas total body fat loss workout for the weekend…

Undulating Periodization Model for Boot Camps!

By Ryan Ketchum of Bloomington Fitness Bootcamps

FORCE_FITNESS

I know that BJ recently wrote an article on how he progresses his campers with an awesome and innovative periodization program using the 50-10 Bootcamp Dynamite interval workout music tracks and the new 30-30 Mayhem interval training music tracks. I think that this is an awesome way to help your boot campers see some great progress without plateauing!

I have recently been experimenting with using an undulating periodization model within our boot camps. Undulating periodization changes the rep ranges you are seeking to hit within your workout each workout. Our undulating periodization model uses the 50-10, 30-30 and 20-10 Ultimate Tabatas tracks each week to keep the boot campers bodies guess what is coming next.

We rotate three workouts through for four weeks of boot camp and then the movements and exercises change for the next four week session of boot camp. For each movement or exercises there are at least 3 progressions and regressions. This allows us to accommodate our brand new trial members and also give our veterans the punishment they need to see awesome results even after months and months of training!

Our program is set up so that Day One of each week uses a bilateral hip dominant movement, horizontal upper body push, horizontal upper body pull, unilateral quad dominant, and a core/cardio/combination movement. (more…)

Achieve Fitness Model Abs With Workout Muse!

TylerEnglishPro

By Tyler English of Farmington Valley Fitness Boot Camp

Abs and Cardio!

If you visit your local big box gym these two words go together like peanut butter and jelly.

I mean think about it for a second.  From the time a misinformed gym member walks in to perform their daily workout the odds are more likely that they will at some point do each of these two movements:

  1. They will perform way TOO much cardio! This is usually the person who spends 80% of the lifetime of their gym membership on the treadmill or elliptical!
  2. They will work their abdominals so much with infinite amounts of crunches etc.  They leave the gym looking more like the Hunchback of Notre Dame rather than a fitness model with razor sharp abs!

I won’t even touch upon the horrible workout music these types of gyms and health clubs play on a daily basis!

Being a New Age Natural Bodybuilder, abdominals and cardio (interval training) are two components to my training program that I constantly am tweaking.  I am always researching and experimenting for new ways to increase my productivity, increase my intensity and deliver the faster results for burning body fat, building lean rock hard muscle and giving me a razor sharp six-pack all year round!

Before implementing Workout Muse Interval Training Music into my conditioning program I constantly found it difficult to take my interval training workouts to the next level. I would implement Tabata Interval Workouts into my conditioning program all the time; but it wasn’t the same! (more…)

Muscle Building Interval Training with Workout Muse

TylerEnglishPro

By 100% Natural Pro Body Builder Tyler English of Farmington Valley Fitness Bootcamp

Ok, so call me a MEAT HEAD! I dare you!

I don’t like traditional boring cardio! Never have and never will!

In fact I HATE cardio! But what Bodybuilder do you know actually enjoys cardio?

Whether it’s low intensity or high intensity there aren’t many that enjoy it.  In fact many are just like me; they just can’t stand the thought of it.

First, let’s get something straight, I am definitely not your prototypical Bodybuilder!

I don’t train like one- but what I do works!

In September of 2008 after only three years of Amateur competition I won my World Natural Bodybuilding Federation (WNBF) Professional Card at the age young age of 26.

So how did I do it?

Well, first I train very different and the high-intensity interval training methods I incorporate into my off-season and contest preparation are a major reason for my success. (more…)

The Plyometric Revolution with the World’s Greatest Interval Workout Music

FORCE_FITNESSA True Fitness Heartthrob ;)

By Wil Fleming of Bloomington Fitness Bootcamp

Plyometrics are an important and essential part to any effective athletic development program.  This fact is hard to argue, but the way plyometrics are effectively integrated into an athlete’s program often time leads to confusion and misuse.

Quite simply there are so many factors that go into determining what is the most effective and safe way to use plyo’s that it can be overwhelming.  Ground Contacts, Impact Forces, etc, all must go into the correct utilization of plyometrics.

But I have found a tremendously effective solution to this: Workout Muse!  Fitness music from the guys at Workout Muse takes plyometric training to the next level by incorporating timed rest periods in between intense bouts of work.

By using interval workout music from Workout Muse I am able to limit the number of ground contacts that an athlete has in a given session, while also gaining the extra advantage of defined rest periods that mimic the settings of athletic contests- in other words, sport-specific energy system development.  Training with interval workout music at a high intensity makes the athletic contests a breeze.

It is essential that the athlete be prepared for this intense interval workout by learning the proper technique for absorbing and creating ground force. Once the athlete is prepared, try this workout in the video:

1)    Lateral bounds
2)    Plyometric pushups
3)    Box Jumps
4)    Standing MB Slams

Once again I turn to my favorite interval training music, Workout Muse’s Ultimate Tabatas.  I recommend this shorter duration of 20 seconds work followed by 10 seconds rest, so that the technique and safety of the exercises remain intact.  Additionally in this workout I alternate upper body plyometrics with lower body plyos so that the rest periods are greater, and allow the quality of the work is then better in the work sets.

My athletes are using interval workout music from Workout Muse to improve their games, are yours?

Father & Son Workout (Part II)

The Corporate Fitness Master

By Greg Justice, MA of Corporate Boot Camp System

Last month I did a blog post for WorkoutMuse.com about working out with interval training music with my son, David.  From that blog post, I got many comments from friends and family around the country.  Since the summer is winding down and David has gone back to start his junior year at the University of Kansas, I thought I’d do a follow up to the previous workout we did, at the high school across the street from my office.

In this Ultimate Tabatas workout, we left out the push sled and 300 lb. tire flip, but we incorporated a nice Burpee – Pull Up combination and some medicine ball work.

This workout was performed on the first day of summer (June 21, 2009) on the artificial turf of our local high school’s football field.  Of course we enjoy being outside but, we also benefit from being able to workout on a joint protecting cushioned surface.  As always, I crank tabata interval training music!

Reggaeton Interval Workout Music

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

In our boot camps and my own personal workouts, we typically alternate between the following interval workout music templates:

1.) 50-10 Five Exercise Circuit from Bootcamp Dynamite powered by Workout Muse (for more more info please visit Best Bootcamp Workout Music)

2.) 20-10 Ultimate Tabatas powered by Workout Muse (for more more info please visit Tabata Interval Training Workout Music)

3.) 30-30 Five Exercise Circuit from 30-30 Mayhem powered by Workout Muse (coming soon in September 2009!!!)

However, it’s great to change it up on occasion and one of my favorite change-up templates is the continuous 30’s circuit featuring reggaeton interval workout music.

Reggaeton is the perfect workout music for high-intensity interval training due to its fast-paced tempo and movement-inspiring rhythmic audio arrangements!
