My Favorite Fitness Specialists

Saturday, October 9th, 2010

When it comes to making it big in any industry, it’s better to be a specialist than a generalist.

In other words, you want to be the go to guy and gal for whatever it is that you are an expert at.

Here is a quick run-down of my 12 favorite specialists in the fitness industry:

1.) Top Fat Loss Expert for Busy Moms: Holly Rigsby

http://www.fityummymummy.com/

Holly is awesome at what she does. As a busy mom herself, she lives it each and every day and there is nobody better at helping other busy moms out there get into tip top shape. She is also currently pregnant and due to have another baby within the next couple weeks and we wish her and the entire Rigsby family best in welcoming a new member to their family.

2.) Top Expert for Corporate Fitness Training and Business Systems: Greg Justice

Greg Justice is THE go to guy when it comes to Corporate Fitness programming. This 26-year personal training veteran was Kansas City’s original personal trainer back in 1986 and he has corporate fitness accounts all over the US and even has international sites in development. His wisdom and professionalism are unmatched and I am thrilled to be able to call Greg a friend and even more thrilled that he powers all of his corporate workouts with Workout Muse.

You can learn more about Greg and his revolutionary Corporate Bootcamp System here:

3.) Top Experts in Corrective Exercise and Performance Enhancement: Eric Cressey and Mike Robertson

Eric Cressey and Mike Robertson are two of the brightest minds and best coaches in the fitness industry. Both of their facilities have been ranked among the Top 10 Gyms in American according to Men’s Health and they have collaborated on a ton of killer projects over the years including Magnificent Mobility and Assess and Correct (both of which I own and reference regularly).

Though they are best known for being the “corrective exercise” guys, they are just as skilled in providing programming that takes both average Joe’s and Elite Pros to the next level like clockwork. You need to get on their newsletters and you need to learn more about these guys…. they are the cream of the crop!

4.) Cardio Strength Workouts and Team Training: Coach DOS

I heart Coach Dos. He is a total class act and has been in the trenches for years helping college athletes maximize their potential. He is the author of Men’s Health Power Training and Cardio Strength Training- 2 books that every hardcore fitness junkie and fitness pro need to have in their collection.

Back in the day, Coach Dos was one of the first top industry experts to support and work with Workout Muse and words cannot express our appreciation for this. We even put together some custom interval training workout music soundtracks for Dos, check them out below:

When it comes to working out to accelerate your metabolism and dramatically improve your overall conditioning, Coach Dos’ cardio strength training templates are second to none. He also has a brand new membership site that is dedicated to sharing his group and team training methods with the masses. It’s like have Coach Dos on staff- pretty incredible! Check it out below:

5.) Top Expert in Semi-Private Training and Running a Profitable Fitness Facility

Alwyn Cosgrove is probable the most charismatic and entertaining fitness pro that I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and listening to at speaking events. I have purchased so many of his fitness info products and best-selling books that he has his own dedicated section on my book shelf. The bottom line is Alwyn is the real deal when and he is one of the few fitness pros to successfully master both the training and business side of fitness.

Specifically, with his wife Rachel, he is the co-owner of Results Fitness which is ranked as one of the top 10 gyms in America according to Men’s Health and the facility has been called my many experts the most profitable gym per square foot in the states. Alwyn’s semi-private training model has revolutionized the fitness industry and has helped countless trainers move away from the outdated, primitive personal training model to make more money by helping more people:

I go with Dave “The Band Man” Schmitz. He’s hands down the best in the biz when it comes to safely and effectively using resistance bands for a wide variety of applications.

He also has his very own line of bands which I have personally found to be of great quality.

I started purchasing bands from Dave about 3-4 years ago and they continue to hold up very well. I can honestly say that we’ve never had a band snap on us… knock on wood ;)

In fact, I love bands so much that we collaborated with the band man to make some custom Workout Muse interval training workout music soundtracks using bands called RESISTANCE BAND TRAINING SOUNDTRACKS (click the image below for more info):

On a side note, Dave is an outstanding coach, a great family man, and one of my best friends on Earth. You can’t go wrong when it comes to the band man and I mean that from the bottom of my heart!

I use all of the KK tracks in my very own Kettlebell Kaos group ex class and my clients absolutely love them.

I also purchase my kettlebells from Perform Better (see more info below).

By Greg Justice of Corporate Bootcamp System

“I’m too busy; I don’t have time to workout.”

“There’s no equipment where I’m staying.”

“If I can’t workout for an hour, why bother.”

Those are just a few of the excuses, for not working out, that I hear on a regular basis.  My reply…Excuses Suck!

And, they get you nowhere, except fat, lazy and dead too soon.

Here’s the Plain and Simple Truth

70% of those who died today…

…died of a preventable illness

Regular exercise and proper nutrition could have made all the difference.  That’s right, simple lifestyle choices can be the difference between life and death.

Here’s another workout from my “Workout Where You Are” series.  I grabbed a couple of rocks for my hands and used an old tire swing on the property for an 20-10 superset of tire suspended spiderman push-ups and mountain climbers, done to Ultimate Tabatas powered by Workout Muse interval workout music:

Father & Son Workout (Part II)

The Corporate Fitness Master

By Greg Justice, MA of Corporate Boot Camp System

Last month I did a blog post for WorkoutMuse.com about working out with interval training music with my son, David.  From that blog post, I got many comments from friends and family around the country.  Since the summer is winding down and David has gone back to start his junior year at the University of Kansas, I thought I’d do a follow up to the previous workout we did, at the high school across the street from my office.

In this Ultimate Tabatas workout, we left out the push sled and 300 lb. tire flip, but we incorporated a nice Burpee – Pull Up combination and some medicine ball work.

This workout was performed on the first day of summer (June 21, 2009) on the artificial turf of our local high school’s football field.  Of course we enjoy being outside but, we also benefit from being able to workout on a joint protecting cushioned surface.  As always, I crank tabata interval training music!

20-10 Ultimate Tabatas Powered by Workout Muse

Set 1: Superset - Burpees w/ Pull Ups & Push Ups

Set 2: Superset – Medicine Ball Slams & Medicine Ball Squat and Press

Set 3: Giant Set – (1) Two Arm Kettle Bell Swings, (2) Alternating Arms Kettle Bell Swings, (3) Rt. Arm Kettle Bell Snatch,(4) Left Arm Kettle Bell Snatch,(5) Rt. Arm Kettle Bell Press, (6) Left Arm Kettle Bell Press, (7) Rt. Arm Kettle Bell Snatch and Press, (8) Left Arm Kettle Bell Snatch and Press

Set 4: Giant Set w/ Speed Bands – (1) Fwd. Sprint, (2) Back Peddle, (3) Rt. Side Step, (4) Left Side Step, Repeat
Repeat this cycle 4 times for a total of 20 minutes

Anywhere Workouts

By Greg Justice of Corporate Boot Camp System

Outdoor Workouts

Outdoor Workouts

In the personal training industry I’m known as the corporate boot camp guru, because of my Corporate Boot Camp System.  Trainers from three countries and every region of the United States run my program.  The nutrition program was designed by nationally renowned registered dietitian, Jayson Hunter, and the workouts were designed by boot camp guru and co-founder of Workout Muse, BJ Gaddour.

When I began my business in 1986, I found that many of my personal training and corporate boot camp clients traveled more than the average person.  Many of them expressed frustration with consistently having to ‘start over’ each time they went on vacation or a business trip.  It seemed like every time we would start to see some positive results from our workouts they would leave town and have to start all over again upon their return.

Anywhere Workouts

Anywhere Workouts

During the past few years I’ve been traveling more for my business than in the early days.  My frequent travels have given me a better understanding of the frustrations my clients were feeling when it came to their travels and working out.  That’s when I started to develop a series of workouts called “Workout Where You Are Workouts” using the revolutionary interval training music powered by Workout Muse. Fathers and Sons

By Greg Justice

In 1970, just a few years before the start of Workout Muse, a singer named Cat Stevens released a song titled “Moon Shadow”.  On the “B” side of the 45 was a song called “Father and Son”.  Many of you will be too young to remember when songs were released on 45’s, but that’s neither here nor there.  The message from Father and Son captures the impulses of older and younger generations in general, and that is a timeless phenomenon.

Many Fathers and Sons enjoy fishing or share an interest in cars.  My oldest son, David, and I enjoy working out together…especially when the weather is nice outside.  There’s a high school right across the street from my office. During the summer, when David’s home from college (he’s a junior at Kansas University), two or three times a week we take advantage of the outdoor facilities.

fatherson

We get to flip tires, push sleds, swing kettlebells, slam medicine balls, work the speed bands and have more fun than you can imagine…OK, I may be stretching it by saying we’re having fun because it’s hard work, but it is an incredible opportunity for us to share a common interest and enjoy some Father and Son bonding.

Corporate Fitness Boot Camps Featuring Workout Muse Interval Training Music

By Greg Justice, MA

Corporate Boot Camps are getting a lot of attention these days, with good reason.  On a weekly basis I get questions from trainers about the best way to break into the corporate market.  There are several considerations when beginning, so I’ll focus on them one by one.  This blog post will compare the regular boot camp environment with a corporate boot camp environment.

corporate-man
Regular boot camps are usually run outside in a park, or a big open gym area where the instructor can yell, scream and motivate with reckless abandon.  If you tried that in a corporate setting, you would probably get thrown out before your first “Drop and give me 20” command.  Don’t get me wrong, you still have to bring the same energy, passion and enthusiasm; it just has to be done in a controlled manner.

The Ultimate Saturday Workout

Friday, June 5th, 2009

One of the highlights this past weekend at The Fast Track to Fitness Millions conference in New Jersey was The Ultimate Saturday Workout featuring Boot Camp Dynamite.

To sum it up, there were 50 of the world’s top fitness professionals cranking it out 50-10 circuit style in a small hotel conference room with 30+ spectators in awe.

It was jam packed like a can of sardines in there, but we got ‘er done!

The event was sponsored by our friends at Prograde Nutrition, Polar, and Perform Better

Here was the workout that everybody that weekend was talking about:

50-10 Five-Exercise Circuit

1- Kettlebell Single-Leg Deadlifts

2- Valslide Slideout Variations

3- Climbing Push-up- Spiderman Style

4- Body Weight Push-ups Rows

5- Valslide Reverse Lunges

Check out what Ben Warstler and Donovan Owens, some of the top boot camp trainers in the world who flourishing 6-figure businesses, have to say about the new Boot Camp Dynamite powered by Workout Muse:

According to Jim Labadie, the founder of the Association for Professional Personal Trainers (APPT) “BJ has emerged as one of the brightest young stars in the fitness industry. He simply blew everyone away this weekend during his ‘Done-For-You Boot Camp Marketing Presentation’ and his ‘Ultimate Saturday Workout’ featuring his proprietary Workout Muse music interval training system for fitness boot camps. He was the talk of the event and his unmatched passion and desire to help others left everyone in the audience wanting more.”

The President of the APPT, Greg Justice, went on further saying: “I have been in this personal training business for 26 years, and BJ is one of the brightest minds I have ever come across- and he’s only 26 years old. BJ’s music interval training system for group exercise has simply revolutionized the fitness industry. I use it in our corporate fitness programs throughout the country and soon to be seen worldwide. It allows us to press play and work with more people per hour to better leverage our time and maximize profits- it literally helps a trainer make more and work less while helping more people. In the midst of the current obesity epidemic, BJ could not have stepped on the scene at a better time.”

We officially launch Boot Camp Dynamite this Tuesday at a very special limited-time introductory price with some killer fast action bonuses on that only last 24 hours.

So if you want to take advantage of this opportunity and join the emerging fitness revolution that is Workout Muse, look for an email from me Tuesday morning… you won’t be sorry ;)

Crank it!

BJ

PS- if you were at the LIVE ultimate saturday workout, first of all THANK YOU for coming. Second of all, please post here and let us know how you liked and how you felt the next 24-48 hours ;)
